Our first Friday Featured Poet is the lyrcist, Reign Taylor. Check out her most recent piercing piece, “Forever”.

A lil’ N’degeocello mixed with Da Bratt, Reign Taylor is a soulful lyricist with roots in Jamaica, Queens. She began her journey as a writer and poet while residing at the YWCA shelter in Greater Harrisburg. Her journey as a woman and an artist are the greatest influences in her work. Effortlessly stringing the life lessons and blessings she’s learned and received throughout her stanzas, Reign’s lyrics often tell the stories of those closest to her. For her, creativity provides the best channel to “deal with the harsh realities of life”.
Her first chapbook “Purple Reign” (released in 2006) focused on stories of her own homelessness, the ups and downs of family life, break ups and finding new love. Her assertive voice and poetic flow have been featured at Elizabethtown College (PA), The Us Open Tennis Tournament (Queens, NY), a Nike shoe commercial and the off-Broadway play Dimensions amongst other prestigious events and venues on the East Coast. In 2018, Reign plans to continue sharing her story of empowerment and self-love through her art. She will be featured as “Alex” in the upcoming play, “You Are Who You Eat” (March 2018). She will also be releasing her third solo album “The Color Purple”, which includes original music and poetry written and produced by her.
Reign believes her gifts are meant to reach the ears and hearts of youth struggling with issues similar to what she dealt with as a young adult. It is because of that, she teaches poetry workshops in Brownsville Brooklyn as a member of the Green Earth Poets CafĂ©. She also volunteers at “No More Silent Voices”, a poetry troop which visits Rikers Island prison bi-monthly teaching, writing and performance poetry to Inmates. Reign’s life goal is to use her art as a means to invoke others to pursue their dreams.
